Come learn to Blues dance with us!
We meet most Fridays at St. Luke's Orthodox Church, located at 501 Sunset Drive in Abilene, Texas. The cover charge is $1.00, except during our charity nights or special events.
But what is Blues dancing? It's a family of dances that came about early last century, coming into it's own style along with the musical genre that started it. At its core Blues has remained the same since its inception, and as a dance it still focuses on simple steps grounded in African roots and individual interpretation of the music.
While we offer basic blues lessons, we encourage our members to learn and stylistically incorporate other styles and moves as they grow. This allows for a fusion of dance styles and forms that go outside of traditional blues dancing. Our goal is to create a fun and inviting place for people to learn and dance as we provide lessons and dancing to music from Blues, to Hip-Hop, and more.
Our Friday Night Schedule
8:00 Intermediate Lesson
This lesson is for those already familiar with the basic framework of social dancing, and is designed to build on those skills and help blend techniques from other styles.
8:45 Fundamentals Lesson
These lessons are designed to teach new dancers from the ground up, through a series of rotating lessons. Our core dance focus is blues, and these lessons will cover the basics of this dance in such a way that new dancers can begin social dancing after their first lesson.
9:30 Social Dancing
Our DJs play a mix of music we find popular with our dancers that ranges from traditional blues to modern artists from around the world. This is your chance to show off what you've learned and have fun.
