ABF CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
a fire has destroyed our normal venue, and while we search for a place that meets our needs, our monthly events are being postponed, possibly indefinitely.
Come learn to Blues dance with us!
We meet once a month at St. Luke's Orthodox Church, located at 501 Sunset Drive in Abilene, Texas. The cover charge is $1.00, except during our charity nights or special events. Check out the Facebook Page to be invited to our official monthly meetings and hear about other fun outings.
But what is Blues dancing? It's a family of dances that came about early last century, coming into it's own style along with the musical genre that inspires it's movement. At its core the Blues aesthetic has remained the same since its inception, and as a dance it still focuses on simple steps grounded in African roots and individual physical interpretation of the music.
While we offer basic Blues lessons, and play a large amount of Blues music, we encourage our members to learn and dance other styles as they feel the music calls for. This allows for our dancers to embrace traditional blues dancing when the music calls for it or break out and try something new as the music changes. Our goal is to create a fun and inviting place for people to learn to dance Blues, while still being able to play around with styles they might already know.
Our Friday Night Schedule
8:00 Fundamentals Lesson
These lessons are designed to teach new dancers from the ground up, through a series of rotating lessons. Our core dance focus is Blues, and these lessons will cover the basics of this dance in such a way that new dancers can begin social dancing after their first lesson.
9:00 Social Dancing
Our DJs play a mix of music we find popular with our dancers that ranges from traditional blues to modern artists from around the world. With our core focus being Blues dancing, this genre is heavily represented but you will also hear pop, hip hop, and Latin inspired music. This is your chance to show off what you've learned and have fun.
